I'm Austrian and the cook, photographer and voice behind "When in Calabria..."
A few years ago, my Italian husband Mauro, and I left city life and moved to a small seaside town in Calabria.
I created this blog to share our experiences of day-to-day, but mostly culinary life, in this beautiful "undiscovered south" of Italy, along with our favourite recipes: Calabrian, Italian, Austrian, and more.
Having lived outside Austria for many years, and with language often a barrier, food, cooking, and dining have always been a wa for me to communicate and connect.
I am a mom and home cook with a passion for food, eating, and cooking (and being cooked for!) I also have a couple of professional cooking certificates up my sleeve (just a hobby!). One for classic cuisine and another for plant-based cuisine. A sustainable fish cookery course is currently work in progress.
I started my first blog in 2012 and will be reviewing and moving all the recipes to this site too before I retire it, so more to follow soon, I hope...
